24July
The Centre for Social Justice and Equality, Madras School of Work college in collaboration with Presidency College, Chennai has organized a public lecture on the topic 'Social Justice in Society' on Thursday, 24th July 2025, at the Presidency College. Social activist and artist Rohini shared her thoughts on this topic as a Resource Person.
Ms. Rohini, Social Activist and Artist have delivered the public lecture as a key note speaker. While delivering the address, she has stated that the particular theme of “Social Justice” is deeply personal and socially significant in Society. Social justice is not merely a concept; it is a lived experience. It is about ensuring that every individual, regardless of their identity or background, is treated with fairness, dignity, and respect. In a diverse country like ours, this means actively addressing and challenging the systemic inequalities that continue to affect millions especially those from marginalised communities. As a social activist and artist, I have witnessed how art can be a powerful medium to raise awareness, question injustice, and amplify unheard voices. Whether through theatre, visual art, or storytelling, we can create spaces for dialogue, empathy, and action. Social justice also means listening to the oppressed, to the silenced, to the stories that are not found in textbooks. It means standing up when we see discrimination in our schools, in our streets, and even in our homes. Students, especially, have a critical role to play. You are not just learners you are leaders in the making. By questioning injustice, practicing inclusion, and being aware of your privileges and responsibilities, you can be the force that drives change in society. Let us remember: social justice is not a destination it is a continuous journey. And each of us has a role to play in that journey.
