Survey on Nomadic Tribes in Tamil Nadu - Census of Boom Boom Maatukarar (Aadhiyan) Nomadic Tribe in Thiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu.
The Nomadic Tribes are nomadic communities of people who move across in caravans for trade, commodities transportation, pastoral pursuits, and employment as artisans and performers. There have been musicians, acrobats, soothsayers, singers, and craftspeople among the nomadic tribes.
Inner Content: There are 71 nomadic tribal communities in Tamil Nadu (Idate, B. 2017). Some NT villages are not mentioned in any category, despite the fact that many of them have been unjustly lumped into opposing classifications, against which they are battling. In Tamil Nadu a community known as Boom Boom Maatukkarar engages in a wide variety of livelihood pursuits. Their typical job is raising bulls to perform and go with them on their soothsaying journeys. In addition to being talented artisans and singers who build their own instruments, the women in the neighbourhood are also accomplished palm mat, handicraft, and epicycle pouch bag makers. The objective of the research is to gather accurate and updated information on housing situations, community certificates, and education, laying the foundation for targeted development programs and policies. Followed by the pilot study the data collection has initiated by the team Vaanavil (An NGO) with whom we have collaborated. Totally, 300 respondents have been interviewed across various places in Tiruvarur districts.
