Survey on PVTG Mission in Tamil Nadu - ‘Habitation Survey on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) in Tamil Nadu’.

The Pradhan Mantri PVTG Development Mission was launched by the Government of India in Budget 2023–24. The mission is to enhance the socioeconomic status of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by providing basic amenities to PVTG households and communities, including safe housing, hygienic and clean drinking water, enhanced access to health and nutrition, road and telecom connectivity, and opportunities for sustainable livelihood.
In order to carry out this mission in Tamil Nadu, the Centre for Social Justice and Equity of Madras School of Social Work has been assigned by the Directorate of Tribal Welfare of the Government of Tamil Nadu to conduct a survey among 14 districts in the state, covering 2028 PVTG Habitations in December of 2023. Through the use of a smartphone application created specifically for this study by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs of Government of India, information about their household composition and the accessibility of local infrastructure was gathered. A GIS mapping technique was subsequently developed using the gathered data to map the distribution of PVTG presence in 14 districts.
